  • New tax rules tracked as they change

Grow with the team you have

Work with one partner instead of an adviser in each country. We handle the tax work on those sales, so you get specialist coverage without hiring tax specialists.

  1. Merchant to Customer: you sell directly to customers
  2. Customer to Merchant: you collect payments
  3. Merchant to Outpost: one API call per sale: we calculate the tax
  4. Outpost to Tax Authorities: we file and remit the tax, and take on the tax liability

Want more payments approved too? Merchant of Record adds local payments, with Outpost as the legal reseller.

  • Outpost is the taxpayer on those sales, not us. When a tax office writes, it goes to them, and my team gets on with its work.

FAQ

What is tax of record?

Outpost becomes the taxpayer of record for the sales we cover. You keep selling to your customers as you do today, and the tax office deals with us on those sales.

How is this different from merchant of record?

With tax of record, you stay the seller and keep your checkout, and Outpost becomes the taxpayer on those sales. With merchant of record, Outpost acts as the legal reseller, so your payments are treated as domestic and are more likely to be approved.

How is this different from tax software?

Tax software calculates the rate, and you remain the taxpayer. With Outpost, we file and remit the tax and are liable for it on the sales we cover.

Do I need to change my payment provider or checkout?

No. You keep your payment provider, orchestrator, and checkout, and connect with one call to our API.

Who collects the tax from my customers?

You do, through your own checkout, using the amount our API returns. We then file and remit it.

Who is liable for the tax on these sales?

Outpost. We’re the taxpayer on the sales we cover, so the filings and liability sit with us. Your home-country tax duties stay yours.

What about tax I owe from before?

Our liability starts from your next sale on the sales we cover. Talk to us about your situation.
